“Digital transformation of the Regions” – Mariam Sulaberidze talked about developments of the State Program for Internatisation during the Georgian Internet Governance forum

“During the current challenges, it has become even more vital, to have public institutions and enterprises in regions of Georgia, given access to high quality, affordable broadband internet and opportunity to use digital services. Current virtual forum underlines once more, how important is the digital transformation of the regions” – this statement was made by the director of “Open Net” Mariam Sulaberidze, during the 2020 Georgian Internet Governance forum, which was held virtually.
Mariam Sulaberidze discussed the current status of the State Program for Internetisation and stated that civil works in the pilot region are continuing without any delays.
“Together with the World Bank, we are actively working on the project “Log In Georgia”, which will give access to high quality internet to 500,000 inhabitants of the regions. As for the programs pilot region, the network creating is going according to the plan and without interruptions. By todays data, 60 km of fiber-optic infrastructure has been constructed” – Mariam Sulaberidze stated.
During the different themed discussions, representatives of the Public, Business and Non-Governmental sectors discussed various problems in the Georgian Internet field. Discussions touched following topics: Human rights in the digital world, children’s codex and internet, Georgian information security ecosystems and existing challenges, cyber-readiness of users and Georgia, Covid-19 and challenges of E-learning and much more.
Georgian Internet Governance Forum (GeoIGF) is an annual event, which started in 2015 and is organized with the help of the European Union and local partner organisations.
